Response to video production and editing has been encouraging. It is not hard to appreciate that such a complex yet easy strategy has created so much buzz.
While information has been limited, and interest so strong, there are few avenues to pursue that lead to solutions that are meaningful, helpful, or easy to follow.
Sure there are some experts out there but they keep their tips closely guarded, maybe feeding out a little here and there, but leaving the big picture blurry, and with a lot a gaps that are hard the bridge.
Some of the material we will be going over may seem too simplistic for certain people but bear with us is it doesn’t apply to your immediate needs. We will lay a great foundation of different things so that you can draw on any of them now or in the future. Some of it may be a reinforcement of what you have tried or it may contradict things you thought were true but never knew didn’t work.
In the next few posts I will go over the basic video production and editing requirements so we can all get started from the same level. Some people already have hardware, software, equipment and accessories need to jump right into studio style video production. Many others are just beginning to express interest in online video production and no clue where to begin or what they need. Most people already have the basic video systems required but are unaware if it.
So let’s start by laying out what basic must-have pieces are required.
To be online you obviously need access to the Internet. I will say up front that dial-up access is not going to cut it. Not that it is impossible but it will quickly become so frustratingly slow that you will give up in short order. However, if you are not totally committed to placing video online you can at least test the waters and use dial-up for your first or few projects.
So let me just say that broadband, always-on connection to the Internet is a requirement if you are considering video promotion online as more than just a hobby.
Now there are a few inexpensive deals on ‘lite’ broadband that may be tempting but at 512kbps speeds you are not going to have much better performance. ADSL speeds of 3Mbps downloading and 784kbps uploading are probably the minimum. Cable ISPs can offer even better speeds at 10, 15, even 20Mbps for residential service, and I highly recommend that.
On the other side of the equation we will try to keep in mind the audience you are targeting and realize that many potential viewers of your videos may not have high speed Internet connections. We will take that into account in the upcoming lessons on video production and rendering.
